Hawaiian Airlines Baggage Policy: Guidelines and Allowances

Regular basic fares for Hawaiian Airlines baggage policy include:

  • 1 personal item free of cost.
  • 1 carry-on item free of cost.
  • Carry-on baggage.
  • Fees will be applicable on checked baggage / hold luggage if the number of per bags increased
  • Charges will be imposed on overweight and oversize bags depending on the weight and size categories.
  • Passengers have to pay the fees on certain sports types of equipment.

Hawaiian Airlines Carry-on Baggage Policy

1 personal item per person (purse, briefcase, laptop bag) and 1 carry-on bag are permitted without paying any fees.

Following size and weight restrictions on carry-on bags:

  • 45 linear inches (22 x 14 x 9in) or 115 centimeters (56 x 36 x 23cm) including wheels and handles.
  • Put in the available space under the seat in front of you or overhead bin.
  • Put personal items in the available space under the seat in front of you and it should fit in it.
  • Carry-on does not count items such as; a jacket, umbrella, diaper bags, duty-free items, and assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, strollers, child restraint seats, etc).

NOTE: There is no under-seat storage on Bulkhead seats, therefore, during take-off, all carry-on baggage must be stowed in the overhead bin.

Hawaiian Airlines Checked Baggage/Hold Baggage Policy

  • 2 Bags Standard, maximum is allowed up to 10 bags
  • 62 inches or 157 centimeters (length + width + height) is the maximum dimensions.
  • 50 pounds or 23 kilograms is the maximum weight.

Hawaiian Airlines Baggage Fee

Fees are applicable depending on the type of fare you purchased, and your destination if you have a Hawaiian Airlines sponsored credit/charge card, if you are an active US military personnel and/or dependent, if you have a status with Hawaiian Airlines’ frequent program, status, with an affiliated carrier.

Fee Allowance for standard checked baggage/hold luggage:

  • USD 30 for the First Bag but for Hawaiianmiles members on neighbor island flights USD 25 is charged.
  • USD 40 for the Second Bag but for Hawaiianmiles members on neighbor island flights USD 35 is charged.
  • On each additional bag or third USD 150 will be charged.

If you are traveling to/from the US, your first two bags fee is free of cost on international flights.

Hawaiian Airlines’ excess baggage fee

USD 50 will be charged per bag by Hawaiian Airlines for the booking of neighboring island flights and USD 100 on North American flights, USD 150 for international flights booking for 3 or more bags.

Hawaiian Airlines Overweight Baggage Fee

Fees will be applicable on bags heavier than the standard 50 pounds or 23 kilograms.

  • On flights to/from North America, Japan, Korea, Pago Pago, and Papeete, you will be charged USD 50 and weight should be between 51 to 70 pounds or 24 to 32 kilograms and USD 35 for neighbor island flights.
  • USD 200 extra per bag will be charged on flights from/to North America and USD 400 extra per bag on flights from/to Japan, Kores, and Pago Pago, and weight should be from 71 to 100 pounds or 33 to 46 kilograms and USD 70 for neighbor island.
  • Bags are not acceptable from the flights to/from Australia or the Papeete If the weight of the bags exceeds 71 pounds or 33 kilograms.
  • Checked baggage/ Hold baggage will be not accepted if bags exceed 100 pounds or 46 kilograms.

Hawaiian Airlines Oversize Baggage Fee

USD 100 will be charged for extra bags by Hawaiian Airlines (for flights to/from North America, USD 150 from/to all international destinations, and USD 35 for neighboring island flights) if they are from 62 to 80 linear inches or from 160 to 292 centimeters. Checked baggage/ Hold luggage will not be accepted if the bags are greater than 80 linear inches or 206 centimeters.

Hawaiian Airlines Sports Equipment Fee

Associated Fees will be applied and Hawaiian Airlines will accept sports equipment such as; skis, golf bags, fishing equipment, and hockey, and lacrosse equipment. Size and weight limits and will count as one checked bag/ hold bag.

CPAP Devices

Under specific circumstances (CPAP), we ask that you check it at our ticket counter no later than one hour before the maximum check-in time for your flight and contact our reservations department at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure.
